5 things you need to know about climate change!

We're talking about climate change today because it's Earth Day! Did you know climate change is the biggest threat to our global health? And that it’s impacting our sexual and reproductive health and rights too?

Here are 5 things you need to know about how climate change will impact SRHR:

  1. Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, like floods, storms, heat waves, and droughts. These disasters destroy hospitals and other health facilities, impacting our access to life-saving SRHR related services, like maternal and newborn health care.

  2. Climate disasters also disrupt supply chains, impacting our access to essential SRHR-related products like pads and tampons.

  3. Climate disasters make existing gender inequalities worse, increasing people's experiences of gender-based violence.

  4. Air pollution, water contamination, and food scarcity have a negative effect on women's health during pregnancy and childbirth.

  5. It's not too late! But we need climate action to address gender inequalities and SRHR. Governments must invest in climate resilient health systems and gender-responsive solutions to climate change to address its impact on SRHR.

It’s time to invest in our planet, our health, and our SRHR!
