Menstrual health education is essential!

A Masarouna program participant's first period is a reminder that menstrual health education is crucial for girls and women everywhere.

''I remember when I got my period for the first time. I was 12 years old and I had no idea what was happening to me. I thought maybe I was sick or something exploded inside of me!

My sisters wanted to understand what was happening to me, so I told them. My older sisters explained everything about menstruation and told me that she and the rest of my sisters went through the same experience. In fact, it happens to every girl my age.

That's why I tell my little sisters not to panic when they see blood on their panties and that they should tell their mother or any woman close to her to help her understand.

Now I'm thinking, was that a bad day in my life? My answer is: No... It was a special day... Not knowing about menstruation caused me fear, but after I understood that it was a natural thing I became more confident in myself. Now I am happy because I became a young woman. Every stage in life has its beauty and happiness.'' - Masarouna program participant
